The Dear Purpose Scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Charnelle R. Davenport as a tribute to her legacy of life, love and learning. The scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior graduating from Dr. Ronald E. McNair High School and continuing his/her education at a four year college or university. The student will have exhibited an excellent record of academics having earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and shown a dedication to his/her community by having completed service through a community service oriented organization.
Dr. Charnelle R. Davenport dedicated ten years of service to the DeKalb County School System, having served five years as a Math Teacher and five years as the Assistant Principal of Instruction. She was the youngest of two children to Mr. Ray and Mrs. Cathey Davenport and she was educated in the DeKalb County School System and took great privilege in returning to the system which provided her foundation. She received both her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Math Education and her Master of Arts in Education from the University of Georgia. Dr. Davenport obtained her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She was passionate about education and about providing opportunities for anyone desiring to fulfill their highest potential.
